JAWS Prototype Display Overview

The Prototype Juneau Airport Wind System (JAWS) is a prototype turbulence warning system that provides alerts of moderate or greater turbulence in selected areas near the Juneau International Airport. The JAWS turbulence alert levels are estimated using real time wind measurements from the JAWS anemometers and wind profilers. The method for estimating the current turbulence level is based on turbulence data collected by research aircraft flying in a variety of high wind conditions around the Juneau area.

Development and operation of the JAWS Prototype system is sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration.

The JAWS Prototype has a integrated java-based display application.
The following is a description of the various images and information that are available on the display.

At the top center of the display is a clock showing the current time in UTC.

Beneath the clock, there is a set of three images that are always displayed.
